Welcome to the Iguana Cup Information and Registration Page.
***Re-scheduled to Saturday, March 20, 2010***
Mother nature did not cooperate for us on our original date (high winds shut down the lift), so the Iguana Cup has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 20th. This day is also "Fun Day" at the Snow Bowl and we're hoping for some better weather.
If you have already registered, there is no need to confirm your registration. However, if you have changes to your team or if you have not yet registered, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE! You can register online or you can contact Shari at QHS to sign up. Note that there is an option to register online, but to pay by checkĀ (look closely, it's small and beneath the PayPal button.)
Please note that due to the postponement, the team rosters below may not be accurate. Please contact Shari at quarryhillschool@gmail.com with any updates to your team.
From the original release:

Teams of six racers will compete for the Cup under a scoring format that is designed to ensure that competitors of all abilities contribute to the team score. Format:
The race will be a fun dual slalom format on the lower Allen trail (skier's left.) Racers will have the opportunity to challenge each other in side-by-side racing while getting timed for their team score. Racers will be allowed two runs each, with the best run counting toward the team score. Teams can be made up of any combination of alpine, telemark and snowboard racers.
Eligibility:
Alpine skiers, telemark skiers and snowboarders of any age are welcome to participate. Please note that while the race will be held on the moderate pitch of the lower Allen trail, there is no mid-station and competitors must be able to negotiate the upper Allen to reach the start.
Cost:
Cost to compete in the Iguana Cup is $90 per team of six. If you are an individual without a team, we encourage you to convince your friends/co-workers/neighbors to make a full team. If this is not possible, you may enter as an individual for $15 and you will be placed on a team the day of the race. Entry fees do not include lift tickets. For non-season pass holders, adult lift tickets are available for $25 each and must be ordered online in advance of the race. Preschool and Senior (under 6 and 70+) tickets can be purchased the day of the event for $8.
Scoring:
The Iguana Cup scoring system is designed to maximize participation from every racer and to ensure close team competition. Teams of six racers will get two timed runs each. The best timed run for each racer will be used to determine their overall finishing position. Once all racers have completed their timed runs, the field will be divided into even groups based on the total number of finishers. Finishers will then be assigned point values based on their position within each group. The point values will be totaled for each team. The team with the highest total points wins. In the case of a tie, the team with the lowest total time will be declared the winner. [For example: If there were 96 total racers, the results would be broken into 8 groups of 12 finishers each. The top finisher in group 1 would score 30 points, the second finisher in group 1, 29 points with points decreasing by one for each finish position up to 12. Then, the top finisher in group 2 (13th place overall) would score 30 points, the second finisher in group 2, 29 points and so on. Each group will be scored accordingly. Under this scoring system, a racer finishing in 85th position would score as many points as the fastest racer.] Because this system is based on a racer's best of two runs, there is a high premium placed on finishing. Racers are encouraged to do whatever it takes to finish at least one run. DNFs (did not finish) are not eligible for scores. Likewise, it will be difficult for teams of less than six racers to accumulate enough points to win.
Prizes
In our inaugural year, the team with the highest score will have earned the honor of being the FIRST winner of the Warren Memorial Iguana Cup. The handcrafted trophy will remain on display at Quarry Hill School in Warren's terrarium, along with the name of the winning team. Winning team members will also receive an award to take home. Other prizes will be given for fastest run of the day, fastest run by age category, and best costume. Every racer will also automatically be entered in the bib raffle.
Raffle Tickets and Challenge Runs:
On the day of the race, we will be selling raffle tickets for a range of great prizes. Competitors who purchase raffle tickets may use those tickets to take additional "challenge" runs after they have completed their two race runs. (Race runs must come first!)
Finding a Team:
If you are interested in racing, but do not have a team, please e-mail Jud Bartlett (jud603@gmail.com) to see if there are teams who need racers. Or, you may go ahead and enter as an individual and you will be assigned to a team on the day of the event.
Additional Activities:
We are in the process of organizing
activities for families with younger children. Please check back for
more information on these activities.

Events like the Iguana Cup are made possible through volunteer efforts. If you are interested in helping out before, during or after the event, please feel free to register here as a volunteer. Thank you!
